Michael Rosen’s critique of the school system

Education for Liberation – Michael Rosen

In ‘Education for Liberation’ Michael Rosen asks the big questions: about how power, control and hierarchy are used in the school system and by whom. He looks at the difference between what we SAY education is for – to teach children to play a part in our society, one based on tolerance, freedom and democracy – and the realities of the totalitarian system that in fact maintains the existing hierarchy.
Rosen lays out the alternate principles we need to establish for fair and just education to be possible.

“We cannot continue to ignore the links between the testing regimes we put pupils through, the harsh school cultures they create, and the deteriorating physical and mental health of children.”
